The University of Manchester

The University of Manchester has launched an appeal to raise £3 million to help build Austin-Smith: Lord's £15 million extension to the historic John Rylands Library.

The four-storey wing - designed to replace an existing 1960s development - will provide a new main entrance, improved visitor facilities and increased storage conditions for part of the library's significant collection. The ground and third floors will be fully glazed, while the first and fourth, to be used for book storage, will be clad in patinated bronze. The university has already secured £8.19 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
