The Exchange by MUMA

Princes Street, Penzance

The existing telephone exchange still exists from the first floor upwards but the architects have created a new interactive street-level facade. There is a dynamic light show system where the bottom-lit vertical fins of glass change colour to create a 'Mexican wave' along the street. The scheme has been so successful that the local authority has been persuaded to dispense with the street lighting so that the building provides the sole source of illumination.
