The Belgrade Theatre by Stanton Williams

Belgrade Square, Coventry

This new theatre addition and refurbishment of the existing post-war modernist Belgrade Theatre transforms the theatre into a cultural hub for the city.

Internally the simple palette of materials (concrete, render in various textures) and colours (black, grey and red) set the unaffected tone. The polycarbonate lantern to the top of the studio theatre gives a glowing light show at night and doubles as the screen to the plant rooms.

Contractor: ISG Interior Exterior PLC
Structural engineer: Flint & Neil Partnership
Services Engineer: RYB Konsult
Contract Value: £6.4 million
Date of Completion: June 2007
