Tallest pyramid since Giza

Foster and Partners has designed the tallest pyramid since Giza as the home for a new Palace of Peace in Kazakhstan. The 62m-tall building will be the centrepiece of the country's new capital, Astana.

The pyramid will be home to a centre for all ethnic groups and geographic regions of Kazakhstan, a Museum of Culture, the Astana University of Civilisation, and a 1,500-seat opera auditorium.

Organised around a central atrium, the building will be crowned by a stained-glass apex, which will house a 200-seat religious chamber. The building is due to open by June 2006.
