Gentrification is the theme of this year's environmental design category in the Student Design and Art Direction 2000 awards. Students are invited to design a retail environment to allow for 'the shifting patterns of the gentrified city'. Sponsor Harper Mackay Architects wants entrants to choose their own site which has potential for change. It says that examples of gentrification include Merchant City in Glasgow, Covent Garden in London and Castlefield in Manchester. Deadline for entries is 31 March.
