The Strategic Rail Authority has admitted that it cannot afford Will Alsop's planned renovation of Birmingham's New Street Station.

The chair of the cash-strapped agency, Richard Bowker, said it had decided to steer funds to 'more pressing'priorities, relegating New Street to the bottom of its to-do list. Alsop Architects'director of infrastructure projects Peter Angrave said the practice was 'very disappointed that the SRA cannot find the cash'.
