Simon Allford was educated at the University of Sheffield and the Bartlett School of Architecture.

After working for Nicholas Grimshaw and BDP, he co-founded Allford Hall Monaghan Morris in 1989. Over the last 17 years the office has grown from four to 90 people, with budgets ranging from £2 million to over £50 million.

Allford is visiting professor at the Bartlett, vice president of the Architectural Association and vice president of the RIBA, where he is developing a new initiative on education. He is also an advisor to the RIBA President's Medals Student Awards and the policy and strategy groups. Allford is a member of CABE's design-review committee and has chaired and judged numerous international awards and competitions.
