Shard update

Off to the President's Dinner, a terrific charity event organised by leading members of the Jewish community involved in the property world. More than £700,000 was raised on the night for children's charities, with speakers including Michael Grade, Jonathan Ross and the ever-reliable Jimmy Tarbuck ('My brother called to say he'd been caught in bed with a patient. The trouble is - he's a vet'. ) The Dorchester ballroom was full to overflowing with deal-makers and fabulous hostesses, and some prominent guests. Astragal noticed mayor Ken Livingstone on Gerald Ronson's table, bidding away, unsuccessfully as it turned out, for various auction items. He pledged that the purchaser of the night's star prize, a new Aston Martin DB9, would not have to pay congestion charges!

Astragal bumped into Irvine Sellar, prospective developer of the Renzo Piano 'shard', who was on very cheery form. Positive announcements are expected in the near future, it seems?
