Secret moments

Actually, the judging process is quite mysterious for the jury.Under a form of voting devised by last year's president Paul Hyett and RIBA awards director Tony Chapman, secret ballots are held until there is a majority winner - which is only revealed when the president opens the envelope at the ceremony.

This adds drama to the occasion, and even keeps the judges on tenterhooks, though they may have gathered from the conversation the way people are likely to vote.
