The RIBA has made a call for entries for the 2003 RIBA Awards, the precursor to the Stirling Prize.

The institute is asking practices of all sizes throughout the UK to submit projects of architectural excellence. Any building of any size in the European Union by a British-based office completed by 14 March is eligible.Organisers have included the existing Manser Medal for one-off houses in this year's awards as a way of encouraging domestic entries.Any new house or substantial extension will be considered for this £5,000 prize.

The RIBA's head of awards, Tony Chapman, said the variety of entries to the awards scheme, now in its 38th year, grows bigger every year. 'The judges are constantly surprised and delighted by some of the smaller, less well-known projects, from conservation schemes to house extensions, ' he said.
