Forgotten Spaces 2011 shortlisted: The Co-Op Pub by Megan Barrett and Lizzie Cowan

[Lambeth] local community pub with associated microbrewery and hop and barley beer garden on the disused railway spur and platforms above

On a disused piece of land next to a railway arch and beneath the railway lines of Loughborough Junction a new community asset is proposed; the co-operative pub. A concept familiar to all but now a rare feature of the area this proposal aims to bring the local pub back to the heart of the community.

This proposal aims to bring the local pub back to the heart of the community.

The gardens on the platforms will provide an open space for all and give back the disused platforms of the railway to the community, which have come to both define and blight the area. This will give the opportunity for the community to rise above ground level and view Loughborough Junction in a unique and engaging way; embracing the history of the area, while also trying to give a blossoming community a space of its own.

The pub space below will provide a space for the community to meet and engage with each other in a creative and interesting way.
