Football fans hoping that the Stirling dinner would be enlivened by live coverage of the England-Turkey game were disappointed.Tony Chapman was not averse to it, but institute boss Richard Hastilow vetoed the idea.

Probably just as well, since it would have been one more distraction for compere Piers Gough to deal with.

He did a fantastic job coping with the relative claustrophobia of the space, sequencing of catering etc.

Let's have him again next year.
