The Department of Culture, Media and Sport has upgraded the listing of the historic buildings at RAE Farnborough (AJ 15.11.01).

SAVE Britain's Heritage, which has led a campaign to save the site from development by Slough Estates as a business park, has welcomed the decision. SAVE, which said Farnborough is 'one of the most important aviation sites in the world', has drawn up alternative plans that reuse the listed buildings. SAVE secretary Adam Wilkinson said: 'This is a huge boost for our campaign for the site.We welcome the fact that the secretary of state has bestowed upon this site the highest level of protection, in line with that granted to other major historic sites around the globe.'
