CARVILL

Shedding light on Treasury operation

The refurbishment of the HM Treasury Building in London's Whitehall called on Carvill to supply light fittings, many incorporating communication and signage devices. Two sizes of Carvill AG1 pendant luminaires, with their distinctive perforated metal design, were chosen to complement the interior design of perimeter offices and corridors. Totem-pole fittings incorporating audio speakers were used to differentiate the 'Light-well' communal areas and training rooms from general office areas.

BLUCHER

Dublin spike is drained by self-cleaning gutter Effective rain-water drainage within the 120m high stainless steel spire on Dublin's O'Connell Street has been provided by Blucher.Water collected in an internal circumferential gutter is drained to the ground via a 100mm Blucher Europipe and collected in a subterranean sump for removal. In addition, the pipe provides ventilation to combat condensation and forms part of a gutter flushing system which uses pressurised water to keep the internal gutter clean.

Ensuring that the new headquarters of Guernsey Post worked in harmony with the surrounding residential area prompted GMA Architecture to chose the clean rooflines of Kalzip's AF 434 system. Roll-formed on site and underlaid with CFC- and HCFC-free Foamglas insulation, 4,800m 2of AF 434 created an 'almost flat' roof appearance. Part L compliant, the assembly is airtight, watertight and non-combustible.

The new photography gallery at London's Victoria and Albert Museum has used Fermacell board for partitioning and dry lining. Its racking strength, flexibility and ease of installation makes Fermacell a popular choice in museum and art gallery applications.

Transport police get down to work

As part of the creation of a 'pleasant and proficient working environment' at the new British Transport Police building in central London, Asher's brief was to provide attractive, durable workstations in the main administrative area. Backed by Asher's CAD space planning and project-management services, more than 60 workstations suitable for open-plan and cellular offices were installed.

AQUILA

Fashion queen puts wiggle into lighting

As part of an urban regeneration project, the London Borough of Southwark has used high-design lighting columns, bollards, brackets and lanterns by Aquila Design.Bollards and Wiggle brackets designed by Zandra Rhodes on 8m black columns are fitted with lanterns.The 70W SON lamp is intricately detailed and the Wiggle racket attaching the luminaire to the column follows a radial curve effect.
