TYCO Feeling the heat A constant supply of hot water is assured at the new BBC Broadcast Centre and Media Centre by Raychem self-regulating heat-tracing systems from Tyco Thermal Controls. More than 4,000m of HWAT-M heating cable were installed along the system pipework to maintain a 55infinityC water temperature throughout the buildings. For frost protection to the exposed cold-water services, Raychem Wintergard has been installed, ready to activate whenever the ambient temperature falls below 5infinityC.

KNAUF Software approach to fire insulation Some £85,000 worth of Knauf Insulation satisfies steelwork fire insulation requirements on a new office complex in Newcastle for computer software giant Sage. Rocksil FireTech 160 rock mineral wool slab was specified for the protection of steel columns, while gypsumbased Fireboard was used for two-hour fire resistant drylining.

GLAVERBEL Coating neutralises solar energy attack Following the trend for neutral glazing, the Foster and Partners-designed No 6 More London Place uses Glaverbel's Stopray Safir glazed into its curtain wall. One surface is coated with a layer of precious metal, which prevents 68 per cent of solar energy entering the building, while offering 61 per cent light transmission.

ANCON Stainless steel adds a polish to stairs The east side of the 12-storey One London Wall office development includes a stairway with stainless steel sections from Ancon Building Products, used to support the external stonework and create an attractive architectural feature. Grade 316 stainless steel from Ancon was specified for maximum corrosion-resistance and each unit was polished with a satin finish.

E-MOTIVE DISPLAY Real-time monitoring keeps track of lifts E-motive's lift monitoring system, installed in the Constellation Place office tower in Los Angeles, California, tracks real-time lift movement and status of all cars. Remote operational controls allow management of various commands to each lift. Its advanced traffic-analysis package can diagnose problems and evaluate performance, presenting findings in the form of graphic analysis.

ARMSTRONG Fun prescribed for pharmaceutical floor Striking blue and orange circular segments of Desso Flavia carpet tiles were used to create zones and add an element of fun to the interior scheme of offices of pharmaceutical firm Roche Diagnostics in East Sussex. The tiles, supplied by Armstrong Floor Products, are made from DuPont Antron Supra nylon for depth of colour tone and lustre.

HENDERSON Sliding doors add an element of privacy Henderson's Pacer sliding glass walls and fixed glass panels have been fitted at the Rabobank in Nijmegan, the Netherlands, to reduce heat and noise and provide privacy for customers, while maintaining the feeling of light and space. The system uses glass clamps that can carry 812mm tempered and laminated frameless glass panels, weighing up to 130kg.

MASOLUTIONS Media wall wins on presentation With its bespoke media wall of American Oak, MAsolutions not only met oil-shipping company Tankers' requirement to provide a presentation and video conferencing facility in its London premises without impinging on the decorations or aesthetics of the room, but also offered a bigger screen through the use of angled mirrors.
The wall contains a 100inch DNP screen with back projection from a Barco projector, flipchart, white boards and storage cupboards for video equipment.

INTERFACE Oriental tiles refresh training appetite At Boots The Chemist's headquarters in Nottingham, Building D31 has been fitted with an Interface floor. Tatami floor tiles, containing Antron Carpet Fibre, were chosen for the varied floor requirements of the specialist computertraining and refreshment areas of the building.
The pattern tufted loop pile has a distinctive oriental appearance, with Miyako chosen from the wide range of colours available.

TERMODECK Cambridge aims for mass appeal Wanting a comfortable internal environment for staff and visitors at its new Hereward Hall in March, Cambridgeshire County Council specified TermoDeck's passive heating and cooling system.
By using the thermal mass of the building and the heat produced through occupancy, TermoDeckserved buildings can consume up to 50 per cent less energy than ones using traditional systems.

WEBER SBD Moving with the times Applying Mulsifix Keycoat repair mortars and Mulsicoat Smooth Anti-Carbonation coatings, Weber SBD has given a new lease of life to the dilapidated concrete facade of a 1930s transport building in London. Fully restored to contemporary standards, the building is destined to become an office for media company McCann Erickson.
