PREVIEW - Spectrum 2004

Spectrum defines itself as the 'annual contemporary contract products exposition staged for the benefit of manufacturers in the furniture, lighting, textiles, surface coverings, accessories and materials areas of the interiors market'. This year's show will be held at the Commonwealth Galleries on Kensington High Street, London, from 18-21 May. Here we give you a first glance at some of the new products that will be on show.

BUTE Fabric specialist Bute will be launching Eriskay, a three-dimensional worsted fabric with an unusual textural quality. Its geometric surface is recessed rather than raised. Colours range from rich vibrant reds, yellows and oranges, through blues and greens to unexpected pastel shades. The texture adds depth and intensity to the colours.

WESTBOND The latest approach to playing with carpet colours from Westbond is 'solidconnections'. Every solid colour in the range is complemented by a two-colour 'connection', enabling the design to be varied gradually. The carpet has a substantial pile weight of 850g/m 2. l ENQUIRY NO.1701 CBS Jellyfish is a laptop stand, designed to make working at a laptop computer on a desk for long periods of time more comfortable. Intended for use with a separate keyboard and mouse, Jellyfish is made of soft plastic, has no sharp corners and comes in a choice of bright colours.

THE MODERN GARDEN COMPANY Telindus is one element in a range of simple, elegant outdoor furniture from the Modern Garden Company, all of which would look at home in a working or municipal environment, while some would also work domestically. Materials used include concrete, steel and aluminium.

NO.1703 HERMAN MILLER The latest version of the classic Aeron chair is in polished aluminium. There will be new Pellicle designs and frame options to further broaden the aesthetic appeal. Also on show at Spectrum will be the new high-performance Mirra task chair, available in numerous colour combinations.

NO.1705 AHREND On the Ahrend stand, the main focus will be on the Revolt Chair, a design classic conceived in 1953 by Friso Kramer RDI and relaunched to celebrate its 50th anniversary. The company will also reveal its new glide-door cabinets, storage solutions that complement its benching and A500 system ranges.

NO.1706 NEIL ROGERS Kl÷ber furniture on the Neil Rogers stand will include the new Thira chair, a slender design that appears to float within its lightweight tubular steel frame. Cushions are covered in leather or fabric, and the back is beech veneer. Armrests are in solid beech or, for the stacking version, leathercovered. Rubber straps, tensioned in the seating area, provide a high level of comfort.
