Astragal may have got the wrong end of the stick about Peter Phillips (AJ 18.01.07). I've read Phillips' posting on Ribanet and didn't find him denying his fascism. He seems proud to be a member of a political party! Chris Roche and George Ferguson were also backed by Phillips, who recognises that we all support a political system which involves parties of like-minded individuals.

Political consensus and action relies on such individuals' recognition of common ground - and its limits. I'm proud, rather than horrified, to be recognised as 'an independent and enquiring mind' by Phillips. I hope more electors will follow Phillips and support me when I stand again.

Iain Meek, Labour Party member and candidate, RIBAnational councillor 2000-03
