Steve Parnell: Retro-eco house

Critic Steve Parnell selects Retro-eco house

36 Wansey Street, SE17 1JP, Saturday, Sunday 10am-5pm, hourly tours, free

Everyone has a ‘thing’ and my ‘thing’ is imagining what the world would be like if oil didn’t exist – ‘steampunk’. Kind of like Bruce Sterling and William Gibson’s The Difference Engine. What technologies would and wouldn’t have been developed? Additionally, I, like many people in the UK, live in a 100+ year old Victorian terraced house and it’s enjoyable to see how different people adapt them to today’s lifestyle and modern-day standards. Failing that, I’d go to Village Underground, a great space for a vital not-for-profit organisation.
