New toy in 3D modelling

The FastSCAN Cobra, the non-contact digitiser for fast scanning three-dimensional objects from Polhemus, is now available in the UK from interactive visualisation company Vitralis.

The scanner works by gathering measurements made from sweeping a hand-held laser over a low-metal object.

The embedded Fasttrak is used to determine the position and orientation of the wand, enabling the computer to reconstruct the full, three-dimensional surface of the object on screen, which can then be exported to CAD software.

In its ability to view models in real-time, as a point cloud, a wireframe or a smooth shaded image, Virtalis claims the FastSCAN Cobra is 'the most advanced reverse engineering and rapid prototyping tool available'. If you are eager to reproduce those intricate mouldings call 0161 969 1155.
