The Association of Local Government Archaeological Officers has produced a document in response to ppg15 'Planning and the Historic Environment'. Analysis and Recording for the Conservation and Control of Works to Historic Buildings aims to provide guidance to local authorities on the use of archaeological recording to assist in the assessment and conservation of historic buildings as part of the planning process.

Buildings analysis and recording can, it says, be secured by attaching suitable conditions to planning consents. Copies of the paper can be obtained by sending an A4-sized sae to the Association of Local Government Archaeological Officers, c/o Planning Department, Essex County Council, County Hall, Chelmsford, Essex CM1 1LF.
