Thank you for publishing a review of my book (AJ 23.06.05) However, it is not 'An introduction to urban design' but to 'urban housing design'. Unfortunately no one would appreciate this crucial difference from reading the review.

Austin Williams seems to have been diverted by an arcane agenda of his own. The book is not about population control (far from it) nor about 'sanitising' cities (whatever that may mean).

What it is about is developing and renovating urban housing to meet two key contemporary issues - the increased demand for housing and the pressures of climate change - and doing so in a way which is sustainable, in terms of both our use of land and of energy. It is regrettable that this message seems to have been lost.
