Meadowbank Club, Twickenham

The Meadowbank site commands one of the most Arcadian bends on the River Thames, where it is graced by a mature parkland setting and views to a small island in midstream, cow pastures on the opposite bank and Richmond Hill beyond. Most of the site is designated as Metropolitan Open Land and it lies within a conservation area and an area of special character.

The club was conceived as a pavilion with its roof canopy floating within the parkland setting. From under this canopy a pergola extends into the landscape, possessing the gardens for the club. Extensive tree planting enhances the character of riverside, meadow and parkland. The double-height lounge is the focus of the interior, with full-height glazing facing the garden and allowing views to Richmond Hill. The first floor provides conference facilities, with three small meeting rooms hanging within the main volume. The basement fitness suite and changing rooms have direct access to the gardens.
