Marks Barfield's Gateway to the capital

Marks Barfield Architects has produced this image, one of four visions for a £425 million bridge across the Thames. The crossing, which will connect the Thames Gateway with Beckton, will include four lanes for general traffic, two bus lanes and two bike lanes. Transport for London (which is behind the proposals) has launched a period of consultation, to run until August. Work on the bridge, which will be central to the massive development planned for the Thames Gateway area, will begin in 2007 if the public give it their blessing. Marks Barfield was commisssioned to 'give people an idea of what might be possible'.
