Madrid's prefab future onto a winner

Jestico + Whiles has won a competition to design 200 prefabricated apartments and 10,000m 2of office and retail space in Madrid.

The scheme, located by the city's ring road, relies on a prefabrication system, developed with engineer Buro Happold, that combines fasttrack concrete construction with pre-serviced cladding panels.Residents will also be able to install standardised internal partitions and door units. Jestico + Whiles claims the combined approach guards against fire and acoustic problems while avoiding the long production periods associated with complete prefabricated units.
