Architect Barber Casanovas Ruffles' vision from the outset was for a shell-like appearance for the finished roof, so a Kalzip standing-seam aluminium roofing system was specified. Initially a coloured finish to the roof was considered the best way to mitigate the visual intrusion of such a large structure. However, after discussions with the planners, main contractor Mowlem Civil Engineering and client Anglian Water Services, it was decided to use a natural embossed aluminium sheet.
