Light Shots: How to enter and FAQs
Find out how to enter the AJ’s Light Shots short film competition, in association with Philips Lighting
How to enter
- Shorts should be uploaded to YouTube and the entry form completed by midnight GMT 03.05.13
- The competition entries can be created in any format (Super-8, 16/35mm, video, animation) but must be uploaded as a digital file in any of the following file formats: .MOV, .MPEG4, .MVI, . WMV, .MPEGPS, .FLV, 3GPP and WebM.
- Submissions must not exceed 60 seconds in length. There is no minimum length requirement.
- Entries can be silent or with sound.
- The filmmakers name and title of the work must be clearly displayed at the beginning of each submission.

- How do I upload my ‘Light Shots’ entry onto You Tube?
Entries need to be uploaded to You Tube
You can upload your moving image work by clicking on the ‘upload’ link at the top of the page and then selecting the video you’d like to upload from your computer. Further instructions on how to do this can be found here.
- What file formats does You Tube support and how do I convert my film to a supported file format?
You Tube supports videos in the following file formats: .MOV, .MPEG4, .MVI, . WMV, .MPEGPS, .FLV, 3GPP and WebM. This link gives details on how to convert unsupported file formats into uploadable videos.
- What do I do if my submission has a different aspect ratio to You Tube’s supported 16:9 ratio?
YouTube uses 16:9 aspect ratio players. If you are uploading a non-16:9 file, it will be processed and displayed correctly with pillar boxes (black bars on the left and right) or letter boxes (black bars at the top and bottom) provided by the player.
