LDA in government funding warning

The London Development Agency (LDA) has warned the government that it needs to make 'firm commitments' to spending public cash in the Thames Gateway housing development.

The regeneration body's chief executive, Michael Ward, said the government has so far failed to commit the funds needed to avoid 'repeating the housing mistakes of the past'and deliver the vision of the Sustainable Communities Plan.

'It would be a tragic wasted opportunity if London simply built mass housing estates without achieving the quality that we need for the future, 'he added.

'But we don't know yet whether we are going to get the resources we need.'
