The chairman of Arup Europe, Cecil Balmond, has won this year's Jencks Award, presented for contribution to both the practice and theory of architecture.

Announcing the winner, Charles Jencks described Balmond as a 'rare, unique talent' and 'one of the world's leading design engineers'.Balmond will give a lecture next Tuesday at the RIBA, following the formal presentation.
