The international glitterati were in London last week to see Toyo Ito receive the RIBA Gold Medal. The celebrations kicked off with an intimate lunch at Portland Place hosted by RIBA President Jack Pringle, whose impeccable hospitality was only slightly undermined when he inadvertently referred to Ito as Mr Ando in his welcome speech.

Pringle got a dose of his own medicine at the evening awards dinner, when Ito offered his sincerest thanks to Mr Jack.
