Looking to the future, Richard Pollington, commercial director at Formica says: 'The high-pressure laminate (HPL) industry is currently undergoing resurgence. The material is shaking off its unfashionable image and designers are again appreciating the aesthetic and practical qualities which made the original HPL, Formica, such a success when it was first introduced. Even given the recent slowing of the overall construction industry, Formica expects to maintain and grow its market share over the next few years. It is currently the UK market leader, with a 40 per cent share of the total high-pressure laminate market, which covers the specification, open construction, worktop and furniture sectors.

Throughout 2006, we expect architects to continue challenging us with exciting designs that push forward methods of construction and test the boundaries of interior surface use and design. A series of product launches is planned which includes laminate with an exceptional resistance to chemicals and harsh products, and a new exterior cladding solution.'
