Incredible journey

astragal

Dan Cruickshank - a former fixture on the AJ, now TV's amiable face of architecture - visited Iraq for a programme shown on BBC2 at the weekend. After an anxious week kicking their heels in Baghdad as they waited for clearance, Cruickshank and his crew set off on an extraordinary journey around the lost cities of Babylon, Nineveh and Ur.The film made all too clear just how great the human and cultural loss will be in Iraq if Bush and Blair have their way. For Cruickshank, this visit came hot on the heels of one to Afghanistan. Kate Adie has hung up her flak jacket - perhaps the BBC wardrobe department should hand it on to him.
