High anxiety

astragal

Matthew Wells from Techniker reminds me how Le Corbusier anticipated some current architecture/defence issues in La Ville Radieuse of 1933. Corb described how apartment buildings would be 50m high with armour-plated roofs, and a surface cover of only 5-12 per cent; arrangements of sheltered spaces between buildings were designed to combat gas attack as well as bombs. It all sounds horribly familiar.
