Good connections

Good to see phase 1 of the Treasury building picking up a high commendation in the BCIA major projects category. It was also shortlisted for the Prime Minister's Better Public Building Award (deservedly won by BDP's Bournemouth Library); had the Treasury won it would have produced a piquant situation in respect of judges, sponsors and connections.

The two sponsors are CABE and the Office of Government Commerce; the head of the former, Sir Stuart Lipton, was the developer of the Treasury PFI project. The head of the latter, Peter Gershon, is part of the Treasury. The judges included representatives of both CABE and OGC. Thank goodness for Bournemouth.
