GOOD AS GOLD?

ASTRAGAL

Astragal's ever-inquisitive mind turns once again to the Royal Gold Medal. Whose year will it be? Or, more to the point, who hasn't won it already? Putting some feelers out, an unofficial shortlist seems to be emerging.

There's the perennial question of Ted Cullinan, of course. Will it finally be his year? Messages seem to be mixed on his chances. There's also speculation that either Zaha or Chipperfield might land the big one in 2006, but the jungle drums are saying that they may have to wait another year or two. And then, out of the blue, a curve-ball.

Bob Venturi. But surely his more-than-enthusiastic promotion of Pofimo had ruled him out forever? Whatever next - Leon Krier?
