Solaglas Structural Contracting

BUILDING Sheffield City Hall

ARCHITECT Penoyre and Prasad

CLIENT Sheffield City Council

CHARACTERISTICS Two transparent boxes were commissioned as 'beacons of light' on top of stone plinths at the main entrance of the Grade II-listed city hall as part of an ú80,000 reburbishment project. The bolted glass assembly was chosen to give a modern flush-glazed appearance without intruding on the traditional style of the building. The lighting source is fluorescent, with coloured gels providing special effects when occasion demands

SPECIAL PROPERTIES Solaglas fitted stainless-steel louvres to the base of the lanterns to provide ventilation
