Ricky Burdett outlined the programme of the new Architecture and Urbanism Unit at the Greater London Authority with a flourish last week.

He was speaking at the formal launch of the RIBA London Region report, Greater by Design , intended to inform the debate on the new London Plan. Burdett is a part-time member of the Richard Rogers team and, as he spoke, it all seemed to remind Astragal of a period in the not-so-recent past . . .

yes! The Architecture Foundation in the mid '90s, with Richard as chairman, Ricky as director, the big London debates in prospect, and arguments in favour of a mayoralty in full flow. It just goes to show how ideas can make a difference.
