Foster and Partners has won an international competition to redesign the home of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, the Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall.

The practice saw off competition from Richard Meier, Arato Isozaki and Rafael Moneo.Lord Foster will work on the scheme - to design the future of the 2,738-seat auditorium - with the Lincoln Center's board and members of the orchestra. It is yet to be decided whether the theatre will be replaced or refurbished.
