Foster and Partners

Foster and Partners has completed its seven-storey office development, Tower Place, in the City of London. The 42,000m2 scheme restores the strategic view of St Paul's Cathedral that had been partly obscured by the 16-storey 1960s office tower it has replaced. The project - a new headquarters building for the Marsh & McLennan group of companies - consists of two independent blocks linked by a large glazed atrium, which will act as a public thoroughfare. The practice aimed to achieve high efficiency levels by incorporating aluminium louvres for solar shading, displacement ventilation and high insulation levels.'This project is more than simply an office building, 'Lord Foster said at the opening.'It is about urban renewal, regeneration and the creation of a new public space.'
