Green Timber Architecture seminar in Edinburgh

Our January Women in Architecture issue has created a big stir, and reaction is still coming in. We recently received the following from Peter Wilson, director of the Wood Studio at the Forest Products Research Institute in Edinburgh:

I’ve been following your campaign re female architects and the opportunities and rewards available to them in the UK and thought you might like to know that we are running a seminar at which all of the architect speakers represent this side of the profession.

This wasn’t any kind of gender preferencing on our part – it was simply that these were the ones who were not only best able to show recent examples of green timber architecture in Scotland, but who individually had the experience of several such projects under their belts. That they command respect within the profession here is probably best evidenced by the fact that the event was absolutely full  (over 200 architects and engineers from all over the country).

This is not the only area of timber design in which female architects are prominent here.  Keep up the campaign!

New Dimensions in Green Timber Architecture took place last Friday at Napier University, with three case studies showing recent examples of green timber projects.
