FAT homes in on first phase of New Islington community project

Fashion Architecture Taste (FAT) has won the competition to design the first phase of Alsop Architects'New Islington scheme in Manchester, the government's third Millennium Community.

The London-based interdisciplinary practice beat Glas Architects, Stephenson Bell Architects, MBLC Architecture, Walter Menteth Architects and Peter Barber Architects.

FAT director Sean Griffiths said he was delighted to have won the social housing quarter.

'We are very pleased to have got some recognition in this country as so much of our work is in the Netherlands, ' he said.

Griffiths said his office was pleased to be working with Urban Splash and Alsop Architects. 'This is a great project. It is just the kind of scheme we want, as we are keen to get into social housing.'
