End the ARB

Assessment exercises are fraught matters these days, as the Bartlett has reason to know. The 'conditional' approval given to the school by the self-important witchfindergenerals of ARB ought to be a nail in the coffin of the registration board rather than the excellent Bartlett school. Perhaps the 'examiners' objected to the deserved dressing down they were given by UCL provost Derek Roberts (once right-hand man to Arnold Weinstock). Since he does not suffer fools gladly, he will have had a problem in getting to grips with the ARB, a curiously fuzzy body, part-elected, partappointed, part-consumerist but with no power to compensate anyone who suffers from incompetent architects; it has no teaching role and no examinations of its own, but a rubber stamp that in theory is crucial to the future of the world.

The best thing would be to put ARB out of its misery.
