Escalators at the 52,000-seat Amsterdam ArenA are saving dramatically on cooling costs with the help of a smart new polycarbonate sheet by GE Materials. The four escalators leading to the arena are enclosed in Lexan Solar Control IR glazing which, its creators claim, absorbs infrared rays to reduce interior heat build-up by up to 40 per cent. The material also allows up to 60 per cent more visible light transmission than other plastic-based absorbent glazing products.

And if that wasn't enough, the tough glazing is impact, weather and flame resistant. Good show.
