Architect: ASD (London Metropolitan University)

Cost: £4,000

The commission for Drayton Park Tree/House was won in an anonymous competition. ASD students developed, designed and constructed the project, which was financed by Islington Council, the Construction Industry Training Board and LMU's volunteering project. A circular timber structure was created around the only tree in the playground, covering dangerous roots that had broken through the tarmac and providing stairs which allow children to look down over the playground.

The frame and staircase were pre-fabricated in LMU's Architecture Department workshop and assembled and clad with softwood decking on site.
