Doncaster bungalows

  • Comment

The RIBA Competitions Office is launching an invited design competition on behalf of St Leger Homes in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, to seek suitable and innovative solutions for the extension and adaptation of a number of one-bedroom bungalows scattered throughout the Doncaster area.

St Leger Homes is the Arms Length Management Organisation (ALMO) that manages council housing for Doncaster Metropolitan Borough. As part of its housing stock, St Leger Homes manages 3,305 one-bedroom bungalows. Typically these homes offer limited accommodation, with the kitchens and bathrooms being particularly small. As people live longer and more-active lives, these properties are increasingly failing to meet the aspirations of customers. Consequently St Leger homes is looking for innovative design proposals to alter and extend these bungalows.

The competition seeks expressions of interest from architectural practices / architect-led design teams. From the initial expressions of interest, four teams will be invited to produce concept design proposals, with each of the short-listed teams receiving an honorarium of £4,000 (plus VAT).
