Doing it himself

Housebuilders must be smarting from a vituperative attack from CABE chairman Sir Stuart Lipton in a Telegraph interview during the holidays. So unimpressed is Lipton over their general inadequacies that he has taken an extreme measure in relation to the forthcoming mega-scheme in Stratford, east London. His company Stanhope and majority partner Chelsfield are going to develop the homes themselves rather than use one of the big boys. 'Inefficient', 'unimaginative' and 'unsophisticated' are just three of the compliments he pays them. Oh dear.
