There may be a certain amount of prurient excitement at the announcement of the marriage of near-centenarian architect Oscar Niemeyer to his 60-yearold secretary, but it is intriguing to see the amount of attention he attracts, even outside architectural circles. Niemeyer is the topic of debate on the eerie website Deathlist ( www.deathlist. net). Every year, the site identifies 50 international celebrities who are most likely to die that year, and then gleefully ticks them off. Niemeyer, the only architect on the list, is ranked number eight, and has an impressive 195 posts. Many of these discuss the fact that an anagram of his name is macro eye siren, but they also give him four points (presumably in the survival stakes) for marrying a much younger woman. Not even that energetic stripling Norman Foster gets so much attention.
