Penroyre and Prasad host inaugural SSoA alumni event

Sheffield School of Architecture’s alumni hold their first London gathering

Sheffield School of Architecture’s first London-based alumni event at Penoyre and Prasad’s Banner Street office was an informative and lively evening.

Eight speakers - including Roger Hawkins (Hawkins Brown), Anne Minors (AMPC Studio), William Matthews (Renzo Piano Building Workshop) and Steve Parnell (University of Nottingham, AJ) approached the evening’s theme Diversity of Practice by giving varied and engaging five minute quick-fire speeches.

The discussion session that followed, chaired by Bill Taylor, provided opportunity for many generations of ex-Sheffielders to air their views and comment on issues affecting the future of the architectural profession and education.

Topics included whether a recessional environment stifles creativity, whether architectural education should become more vocational and if Autodesk Navisworks is in fact a design tool or a computer game.

The evening was rounded off with informal chat and a catch up with old friends.
