CRITICISM OF A 'CLOSED SHOP' AWARDS CEREMONY

LETTERS

With reference the recently awarded President's Medals (AJ 08.12.05) I present the notion of their becoming an inter-Bartlett/ Architectural Association award.

Obviously there is an insufficient supply of architectural immortals - in both the ranks of the student entrants and also among the distinguished practitioner judges - outside the undoubted sphere of London's genius to warrant a truly international award scheme.

Maybe next year the two schools could operate a combined 'crit' system and save on resources, which they could then use for further promotional material. The system of a 'crit' is a - granted, somewhat traditional - method used by lesser schools of reviewing and judging student work internally, away from the public stage.
