Sir Richard MacCormac's masterplan for the Phoenix Initiative, Coventry's citycentre millennium project, will incorporate two works by the German conceptual artist Jochen Gerz, intended to tackle the dilemmas of reconciliation. One, the 'Future Monument', is a 5m glass obelisk surround by glass plaques highlighting changes that have taken place in relation to former enemies; the 'Public Bench' is 45m long and will feature plaques produced on the spot, commemorating friends or heroes.
