Gummer introduced the PPG 7 clause - which allows permission for a new-build country house provided the design is of exceptional quality - when he was environment secretary in 1997.The campaign continued to gather support this week, securing the backing of Sir Nicholas Grimshaw and taking the total names on our letter to planning minister Lord Rooker to 359.Offers of support are still welcome.Email ed. dorrell@ construct. emap. com or write to Save the Clause, The Architects' Journal,151 Rosebery Avenue, London EC1R 4GB.
